Unidirectional water-main flushing April 2026

The City of Trail Utilities crews are conducting unidirectional watermain flushing to maintain and improve water quality in the distribution system.

Areas affected: Shaver’s Bench, Miral Heights, Glenmerry, and Waneta
Start date: April 12, 2026
Duration: Approximately four weeks

What to expect:

• During flushing, chlorinated water will be supplied from the Water Treatment Plant to the affected areas.
• You may notice discoloured water during this process. If so, please run your cold water taps for several minutes until the water clears.
• The chlorinated water is safe to drink and poses no health risk. Chlorination is a standard and necessary method used to clean and disinfect reservoirs and watermains.

To minimize inconvenience during the flushing process:

• Avoid using hot water if your cold water appears discoloured. This prevents sediment from entering your hot water tank.
• Delay laundry and dishwashing until water runs clear to avoid staining clothes or dishes.
• Flush cold taps only. Flushing hot taps may draw discoloured water into your hot water system.
• Drive cautiously near flushing crews and equipment. Watch for signage and workers.
• Report persistent water quality issues to Public Works if discolouration continues beyond a few minutes of flushing.
